Venture Led by Brandon Lutnick Partners with SoftBank, Tether, and Bitfinex for Major Crypto Investment

New Crypto Investment Venture Emerges

A venture led by Brandon Lutnick, chair of brokerage at Cantor Fitzgerald, has partnered with SoftBank, Tether, and Bitfinex to launch a major cryptocurrency investment initiative. The project aims to invest billions of dollars in crypto assets, drawing inspiration from the success of Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), which saw exponential growth after heavily investing in Bitcoin.

Funding and Structure

The venture is structured as a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) and seeks to create a publicly listed alternative to Strategy. It plans to issue stock and speculative debt to build a massive crypto stockpile. The SPAC will receive $3 billion in Bitcoin from its partners and aims to raise an additional $350 million through bonds and $200 million in equity to expand its Bitcoin holdings.

Strategic Goals and Political Ties

The initiative is also seen as an effort by Lutnick to capitalize on a potential crypto revival under President Donald Trump, who has pledged to introduce more crypto-friendly policies. Notably, Lutnick’s father, Howard Lutnick, previously served as Trump’s commerce secretary, adding a political dimension to the venture.

Investment Scope and Ambitions

While the SPAC’s primary focus appears to be on Bitcoin, it remains unclear whether the fund will diversify into other cryptocurrencies. The partnership’s goal is to replicate the success of Strategy, which leveraged heavy Bitcoin investments to achieve significant valuation growth. This move underscores the growing interest from institutional players in cryptocurrency as a strategic asset class.
