The founder of Jupiter exchange, Meow, has raised concerns about a critical issue impacting the Solana ecosystem: wrapped Sollet tokens, such as soBTC. These tokens, widely used across lending and AMM platforms, were originally issued by FTX or Alameda Research, though their exact origin remains unclear. Meow emphasized that these tokens were introduced to generate liquidity but are now causing significant challenges.

The Problem with Wrapped Tokens

Meow highlighted that while these tokens are supposed to be backed 1:1 by assets like BTC or ETH, it is uncertain whether FTX still holds the underlying assets. This lack of clarity poses a major risk, as soBTC is often used as collateral on major DeFi platforms. If it is revealed that soBTC lacks backing, it could lead to a further destabilization of the ecosystem.

Urgent Call for Clarity

Meow urged the Solana Foundation to seek transparency from FTX regarding these tokens. He stressed the importance of marking down assets if they are no longer backed, emphasizing that addressing this issue now could prevent greater problems in the future.
