Web3 Summit Returns to Berlin

The Web3 Summit, organized by the Web3 Foundation, is set to make its return in Berlin from August 19 to 21, 2024, after a five-year hiatus. Taking place at the historic Funkhaus Berlin, the event will feature over 60 speakers and more than 40 talks focusing on blockchain advancements, decentralized technologies, and Web3 innovation.

Prominent Speakers and Activities

The summit will include notable speakers like Gavin Wood, Ethereum co-founder, and Juan Benet, the creator of IPFS and Filecoin, who will share insights on the decentralized web's future. Attendees can engage in various activities, including workshops, presentations, and the Blockspace Symmetry Hackathon, a 72-hour event offering developers opportunities to win top grants.

Community-Driven Events

Beyond the main activities, the summit will also feature community-driven events such as an opening party on August 19 and a happy hour on August 20. Attendees can collect their Proof of Attendance Protocol (POAP) badges, utilizing dynamic NFT technology on Polkadot.

Polkadot's Investment in Growth

In a recent treasury report, Polkadot announced it allocated $87 million worth of DOT to various initiatives in the first half of 2024, with a significant portion directed toward marketing and outreach. Over $36 million was spent on advertisements, events, and conferences to attract new users, developers, and businesses to the Polkadot ecosystem.

Transition to Polkadot 2.0

Following the completion of Polkadot 1.0 in July 2023, the community is gearing up for Polkadot 2.0. This upgrade is supported by advanced technologies like Async Backing, Elastic Scaling, and Agile Coretime, enabling Polkadot to operate like cloud services such as AWS or Azure. This transition aims to provide increased transaction throughput for high-demand projects while allowing early-stage projects to manage costs effectively.
