Matter Labs Achieves Major Milestone with Validity Proofs on Testnet

Matter Labs, the developer of zkSync, a Layer-2 scaling solution based on zkRollup technology, has successfully integrated validity proofs into its public testnet. This milestone comes just 10 days before the official launch of its zkEVM on the Ethereum mainnet.

Validity proofs are a cornerstone of zkSync's infrastructure, ensuring the correctness of transaction execution. These proofs are generated and verified on-chain, providing a robust guarantee of accuracy. With this integration, users on the testnet can now experience the full functionality of zkSync's ZK Prover, which handles proof generation, aggregation, and verification.

zkEVM: A Breakthrough in Ethereum Scaling

zkSync is poised to become the first zkEVM to launch on the Ethereum mainnet. zkEVM, or zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine, represents a significant advancement in scaling solutions. By bundling hundreds to thousands of transactions and verifying them cryptographically, zkEVM aims to enhance throughput while maintaining Ethereum's security. This solution is widely regarded as a critical step in achieving scalable and cost-efficient transactions on Ethereum.

Competition in the zkEVM Space

Matter Labs is not alone in the race to deploy zkEVM solutions. Other projects, including Polygon, Scroll, and Taiko, are also actively developing their own implementations. Polygon, for instance, recently launched its zkEVM testnet following the acquisition of Hermez last year.

Looking Ahead

Matter Labs has also announced plans for Pathfinder, a Layer-3 protocol designed to demonstrate the potential of zkRollups as customizable, trustlessly linked blockchains. The mainnet launch of zkSync's zkEVM is expected to go live by the end of October, initially without external projects but with public access planned by the end of 2022.

This development underscores Matter Labs' leadership in Ethereum scaling, with its zkEVM solution set to play a pivotal role in the future of the network.
