In late August, the ECOS Free Economic Zone in Armenia announced the addition of 60 megawatts (MW) of capacity to its mining facility. This expansion highlights Armenia's growing presence in the global crypto mining landscape.

Key Details of the Expansion

The mining facility, operational since 2018, is situated at a hydroelectric plant on the Hrazdan river. It directly sources electricity from the high-voltage grid and utilizes the site's infrastructure to power mining containers. ECOS representatives have indicated potential for further expansion, targeting an additional 200 MW of clean energy capacity.

Comparative Scale of Mining Operations

For context, ECOS's current capacity surpasses other notable crypto mining operations. For instance, the Berlin Geothermal plant in El Salvador allocates 1.5 MW of its 102 MW production to crypto mining, while the Greenidge Generation plant in New York produces approximately 44 MW. ECOS's expansion underscores its commitment to large-scale, sustainable crypto mining.

This development positions Armenia as a significant player in the global crypto mining industry, emphasizing the use of renewable energy to power operations.
